MDOC Release Paths

A person transferred from the Jackson County Adult Detention Center to MDOC has not been released from custody. The county booking ends, but the state sentence and state location become controlling. Later, the person may leave prison on parole or Earned Release Supervision, enter an approved residential program, transfer within MDOC, or reach an actual discharge. Each event has a different record meaning.

Parole and ERS end physical prison confinement while state jurisdiction continues. Parole follows a discretionary Board process after legal eligibility. ERS depends on state law, MDOC calculations, conduct and classification review, and an approved residence. Final discharge is a later endpoint and should be stated expressly. A county roster disappearance followed by an MDOC record shows a transfer into the state system, not a Jackson County community release.

MDOC Release Search Condition

The MDOC homepage displayed an “Inmate Search” link on the research date. Its destination was not an offender locator. It opened a form for reporting suspected illegal cell phones or social-media activity, and a separate search-index route returned a missing-page response. No live official result was available to confirm that public results displayed release status, photographs, dates, or an assigned supervision office.

The image points readers to the agency, while the verified fallback is MDOC Records. Inspect any restored locator before entering data. A true offender search should ask for offender identifiers, not details about contraband or a social-media report.

Request MDOC Release Records

Use the person's full name, date of birth, MDOC number when known, sentencing county, approximate conviction date, and last Jackson County booking. These details help distinguish people with similar names and connect the county transfer to the state file. Ask MDOC to respond using its own maintained labels rather than a broad request for “everything.”

1. Check the MDOC homepage to see whether an actual offender locator has been restored.
2. Contact MDOC Records for current custody status, institution or office, and the actual release or discharge event.
3. Request the ERS date, tentative release date, maximum release date, jail credit, and parole status when time computation matters.
4. Use the MDOC GovQA portal when copies of maintained records are needed.
5. Confirm a parole decision with the Board and a supervision assignment with the named local office.
6. Use VINE as supporting event notice, not as the definitive sentence calculation.

A narrow request can ask for current status, actual release or discharge date and type, institution or supervising office, and the exact state dates. Ask for an estimate and any cited withholding authority. The Mississippi Public Records Act does not require MDOC to create a record or answer a research question that is not already maintained.

MDOC Release Date Labels

MDOC uses three precise concepts: Earned Release Supervision date, tentative release date, and maximum release date. “Projected release date” is a common search phrase, but Mississippi's official term is tentative release date. None of these should be reported as the confirmed day a person actually left. The release or discharge entry documents what occurred.

Miss. Code §47-5-138 and the MDOC supervision explanation govern ERS. MDOC gives an example in which an eligible offense committed on or after July 1, 1995 may require 85 percent in a facility and 15 percent on ERS. That example is not a formula for every person. Offense type and date, sentence, statutory eligibility, credits, conduct, classification, approved residence, discipline, jail credit, other cases, and detainers can change the path.

ERS date

The calculated point associated with possible Earned Release Supervision under continuing MDOC control.

Tentative release date

The state's calculated release date, subject to change and not a guarantee.

Maximum release date

The calculated outer date shown in the state time framework.

Actual release

The recorded event showing that physical confinement ended.

Discharge

The recorded end of the specified MDOC custody or supervision status.

Behavior review and an approved residence are among the factors MDOC identifies for ERS. Parole eligibility is separate and never guarantees a Board grant.

MDOC Release Records Contact

MDOC identifies its Records Department as the office for offender time, jail credit, and eligibility dates. It is the central route when the public search does not function, when a Jackson County jail transfer led to state custody, or when a durable status response is needed. Send sensitive identifiers only through a channel the agency confirms.

The contact page is an agency directory, not proof of any named person's status. Request the actual maintained record and match the MDOC number before relying on a response.

Note: MDOC institutions are statewide, so no local prison should be inferred merely from a Jackson County conviction or residence.

MDOC Parole Release Records

The Mississippi State Parole Board decides parole. MDOC says a list of parole-eligible offenders is generated monthly and sent to the Board, but that internal cadence is not a public hearing calendar. No verified current public calendar, complete decision database, or public absconder list was found in the official sweep. A named-record request is the sound fallback.

Ask the Board for the maintained decision or status record using the MDOC number, sentence, county, offense, offense date, and known eligibility date. Then ask MDOC Records whether the decision was carried out and what the actual release entry shows. A grant may be followed by residence review, a detainer, rescission, or processing. It is not the same as the physical release date.

Parole eligibility is primarily governed by Miss. Code §47-7-3, with related process provisions in §§47-7-5, 47-7-13, and 47-7-17. Those laws have changed. Do not calculate a personal eligibility date from a sentence length alone.

MDOC Jackson Release Supervision

When MDOC assigns a released person to supervision in Jackson County, the Jackson Probation & Parole Office can help route the known case. It is at 1725 Kenneth Avenue in Pascagoula and can be reached at 228-762-1166. The office is not a jail and does not offer a public named-person roster. Formal status remains a matter for MDOC Records and, when parole is involved, Board records.

MS SAVIN/VINE can report state and county events such as transfers, release, return to custody, and escape or abscond supervision. Its Registration Link can keep a registration tied to a person who moves from county custody into MDOC or other custody. Read the reporting agency and event text. A VINE notice is timely support, but it cannot certify the full time computation or replace the discharge record.

Statewide MDOC reentry resources discuss clothing, transport, medical aid, food, and identity documents. That is a state-prison and approved-program context, not proof of a county jail program. The Jackson supervision office page explains the local contact boundary.

MDOC and Jackson Release Systems

The Jackson County roster and MDOC records cover different custody stages. The roster reports people currently held at the ADC. MDOC controls a state prisoner after transfer, including location, time calculations, state release, supervision, and discharge. BOP covers federal prison custody. ICE's locator addresses current immigration detention. None is a universal status database.

If systems conflict, start with the last known custodian and follow the documented receiving authority. Match identifiers and account for update timing. The ADC detention page supplies the direct jail channel, while a blank page, wrong portal, or missing roster card cannot answer the release question by itself.

Preserve the agency name, date, and exact status from each response. An ADC transfer record and an MDOC intake record may describe the same handoff from opposite sides. A later release entry should be matched to the correct MDOC number before it is linked to that county booking.
